ISLANDERS will have to wait until the end of 2012 for the Guernsey version of the new British passport.

ISLANDERS will have to wait until the end of 2012 for the Guernsey version of the new British passport.

The new Bailiwick passports, when available, will have strengthened security features.

Immigration and Nationality assistant chief officer Phil Taylor said the introduction of the new generation of passports in the UK from 5 October would have no immediate impact on travelling islanders.

'In the meantime, the Guernsey Passport Office will continue to issue the current British passport, which is recognised throughout the world and meets exacting security standards,' he said.
