Man, 18, in court on rape charges

AN 18-YEAR-OLD local man has been charged with two counts of rape and one of attempted rape following police investigations into sexual assaults in Town.

Filipe Nelson Burton appeared in the Magistrate's Court this morning after being detained overnight.

He was remanded in custody until 1 October.

A separate person has been arrested for wasting police time in connection with an incident that took place on Havilland Street early on Monday 30 August.

That person has been bailed. Police confirmed that this assault was not of a sexual nature, as previously alleged.
