Guernsey lose thriller as Jersey hold onto trophy

Guernsey 7, Jersey 8 JERSEY edged a thriller to retain the Garenne Seniors Challenge Trophy at La Grande Mare over the weekend.

JERSEY edged a thriller to retain the Garenne Seniors Challenge Trophy at La Grande Mare over the weekend.

That the visitors won the match by the odd point in 15 emphasised just how closely fought this veterans' inter-insular was and it could have gone either way right down to the last couple of singles rubbers yesterday.

'It has been a tremendous match. You do not get any closer than this,' said Jersey's non-playing captain, Clive Dobin, as those closing matches came down the stretch.

He was to finish the day smiling, however.
