THE last time Guernsey avoided defeat in Jersey, Dave Rowlinson won the final point of the match to earn a thrilling 9-9 tie at La Moye in 1998.

The then Channel Islands champion held his nerve to halve the 18th for a 1 up victory over Andrew Boxall in the final match out on the course to give the visitors what had seemed like an improbable draw before they won the last four singles rubbers.

This weekend Rowlinson returns to the course on Jersey's west coast as his island's non-playing captain, aiming to defend the Inter-Insular Challenge Trophy that his side won back for the first time in six years at L'Ancresse 12 months ago.
