Loveridge pushes Dodd all the way in first event

GARRY DODD (pictured) enjoyed a pre Commonwealth Games boost by claiming the first open tournament of the domestic season, the Senior Group event.

But to do so he had to overcome Games colleague Alice Loveridge in a close five-game final.

Dodd was in excellent form throughout the tournament and his intentions were clear when he posted a victory over Second Division player Jeremy Tan for the loss of just two points in the group stage match.

His quarter-final opponent was a surprise package in unseeded upcoming junior Josh Stacey, who had also shown excellent form.
