ISLANDERS need to be vigilant after new European terror alert warnings but it should not stop them travelling, say the Guernsey authorities.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office updated its travel advice on Sunday advising of a 'high threat' of attacks in places such as France and Germany. The website warning, which put all of Europe including London on alert, followed US advice to travellers about the threat of an unspecified al-Qaeda attack.

Yesterday Home minister Geoff Mahy (pictured) said that although Guernsey was under no threat locally, islanders needed to take note of information provided by the FCO.

'As always the public in general is urged to remain vigilant, especially when travelling, and to report any suspicious activity to the police to assist in identifying and disrupting potential terrorist activity,' he said.
