Powell lowers island record for 'fun'

IAN POWELL exited the men's 50m butterfly at the semi-final stage yesterday, but broke a record on his way there.

Powell's time of 25.25sec. in heat two of the semis was not quick enough to reach Wednesday's final, but in qualifying from heat six he had swum a PB of 25.13, meaning he also earned a new island record.

Powell (pictured) was pleased with getting as far as he did, especially considering his main priorities are elsewhere.

'It was nice to get the PB and the island record, it bodes well for the rest of the competition,' he said.
