It is re-assuring to know that, in the rarefied atmosphere that is the Commonwealth Games, local rivalries still thrive.

The highlight of yesterday's play at the lawn bowls in the Jawaharial Nehru Sports Centre was Guernsey's dramatic win over Jersey in the men's triples.

But Garry Collins, Dan De La Mare and Gary Pitschou did not find life easy against inter-insular rivals Derek Boswell, Allan Quemard and Cyril Renouf, and needed a tiebreak to see them off.
