Hopes were high as Dodd, Olly Langlois and Matt Stubbington headed into their game against Sri Lanka knowing a win would secure qualification, which was ultimately a step too far.
But it did not look that way as Dodd gave the Sarnians the early lead with a fine 3-1 victory over Buwaneka Nirmala Jayasingha.
But like so often, the tie hinged on two key moments, the first being Langlois' dramatic encounter second up against Rohan Sirisena Manamendra Gedara.
