ISLANDERS travelling to France are being urged to check their transport arrangements after the country's networks were crippled by a sixth day of strikes.

The widespread industrial action is continuing after French President Nicolas Sarkozy insisted that proposals to raise the state retirement age from 60 to 62 would go ahead.

The strikes caused delays and cancellations to train services and led to filling stations running dry.

Airlines serving Paris airports were told to cut services by 50%.

Association of Guernsey Travel Agents chairman Jamie Blondel advised islanders to check with their operator or travel agent to see if they would be affected. So far most islanders seem to have escaped the effects.
