The guernsey becomes a fashion must-have

GUERNSEY'S favourite jumper is set to go global after being adopted by iconic fashion label Fred Perry.

When the company - the brand of choice for celebrities, fashion followers, music lovers and sports fans - decided it wanted to include the guernsey in its latest collection, it was determined not to settle for second-best.

It came direct to the island's specialist producer at Rue des Marais in the Vale.

Arthur Eldridge, co-owner of Guernsey Woollens Ltd, said the fame of the island's prized pullover, long favoured by local fishermen, was growing.

'Guernseys had started to get fashionable and, rather than doing a lookalike version, they wanted to do the real thing.'
