ATHLETICS have issued a plea for help as they hover perilously close to folding.

The Division One club, who reformed two years ago and won the Stranger Cup in their first season back in local football, are currently working with a threadbare squad and had just a 13-man squad for their 1-1 with Vale Rec on Wednesday night, with both substitutes usually goalkeepers.

'The last thing we want to do is to have to scratch a game or games,' said Tics president David Nussbaumer, who admitted that they 'desperately need' more depth to their squad.

Nussbaumer insisted that long-standing rumours that the club were in financial difficulty were totally incorrect and that the dangers lay entirely with the shortage of available players.
