A WEEK of disrupted flying ended at lunchtime yesterday.

The airport opened at about 12.15pm, but some people whose flights had been cancelled on Thursday were relying on stand-by seats as their only means of getting away.

An estimated 10,000 cubic metres of snow fell on the runway in the last week but airport director Colin Le Ray (pictured) said the good thing was that it was not expected to freeze in the days ahead.

'It's been a disruptive week and we are grateful to the passengers and airlines for the patience they have shown, and also to our staff and contractors, who have worked long hours to achieve what flying we did have,' he said.
