NEAR perfect racing conditions saw the Guernsey Velo Club's second 'Sportive' event on Sunday pass the ton mark in terms of competitors.
One of four events in fairly quick succession, this one started and finished at Vazon and saw riders able to choose from a course of either 30 miles, 40 miles or the flagship 69 miles.
And while officially a race, the longest of which was won by Tony Bleasdale, it was more of a training exercise also designed to get more people involved in the sport, as Velo Club president Gary Wallbridge explained.
'The purpose is to try and get everyone out on a bike, regardless of what level they are at,' he said.
