THEY may have made it difficult for themselves, but Gareth Holden eventually ensured Vale Rec picked up a priceless three points in the most stunning fashion last night at the Corbet Field.

For nearly 80 minutes of a cracking game against Sylvans, who more than played their part in the match, Rec provided some delightful football befitting their serious top-three ambitions.

One problem, though: their shooting radar was malfunctioning to such an extent that a victory seemed out of the question.

But step forward Holden to meet a half-clearance clean on the volley from all of 20 yards and find the top corner of Ash Williams' net, despite the ball initially dropping behind the tireless striker.
