As a result, some have been asked to waive any rights they might have to compensation should their property subsequently reduce in value.
This emerged after an advocate specialising in property confirmed that one of his clients had received the written warning from the Housing Department.
It is the clearest indication yet of how significant the Population Policy Group's review of the island's housing laws could be.
