RETAINING the Capelles Open title is a problem for the Guernsey and Channel Islands men's table tennis champion.

In winning his fourth Capelles singles title in six years at a quiet and almost empty Hougue du Pommier late last night, Garry Dodd held onto the old trophy for the first time - but didn't Phil Ogier make him struggle in a fantastic final.

Dodd, who first won in 2006 and then again in 2008 and 2010, sailed into a two games to love lead and seemed destined to win in straight games as he moved into a 9-6 lead in the third.

At that point he switched off just enough for Ogier, impish and determined to add to his five Capelles wins, to take the set 14-12 to keep the match alive.
