Calzaghe to give awards extra punch

BRITISH boxing legend Joe Calzaghe has been named as this year's special guest for the Sportingbet Sports Personality of the Year Awards at Beau Sejour on 27 January.

Calzaghe (pictured) retired in February last year as Britain's only undefeated and longest-reigning boxing world champion of the modern era.

The former world light-heavyweight champion, as well as former WBO, WBA, WBC, IBF and the British super middleweight champion, Calzaghe held the WBO super-middleweight title for more than 10 years until he relinquished the title to concentrate at light-heavyweight.

Calzaghe, who was trained by his father, Enzo, is best known for his wins against Chris Eubank, Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler, Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.
