Emas would not stop airport being extended

EMAS could be used to improve the airport runway safety areas and prevent the closure of La Mare Road, but the airfield boundaries would still need to be extended, an independent report has concluded.

EMAS could be used to improve the airport runway safety areas and prevent the closure of La Mare Road, but the airfield boundaries would still need to be extended, an independent report has concluded.

The use of an engineered material arresting system would also mean a field owned by the Le Messurier family, which is the subject of a compulsory purchase order, would not need to be acquired.

But Public Services minister Bernard Flouquet said other land already purchased for the project would still be needed.

The report was produced by engineering consultant Mott Macdonald.
