Web address limit is not a problem, says local registrar

THE chief technical officer of the local registrar for .gg internet names has played down fears that the internet is running out of web addresses.

Nigel Roberts (pictured) of Channelisles.net said the media was largely overplaying the issue. He recently attended a meeting of European country code administrators in Tel Aviv at which internet address exhaustion was discussed.

'We are about to run out of traditional internet numbers such as 192.168.1.1, but there is no need to panic as the internet community saw this coming and has developed a new numbering system called IPv6.

'Most ordinary users will hardly notice any difference during the switchover, just like when telephone exchanges changed to digital in the late 1980s.'
