AN EMAS aircraft-arrester bed could be installed much closer to the western end of the runway than was supposed in an independent report, according to the manufacturer.

Esco said that its collapsible concrete would be compliant with Civil Aviation Authority regulations and mean the airport boundary would need to be moved just 14 metres.

It said Emas was a viable option but concluded that the airport boundaries would have to be extended up to La Mare Road in order to comply with CAA regulations.
