BLUE ISLANDS has promised low fares for locals in return for being allowed to compete with Aurigny on the Alderney-Southampton route.

BLUE ISLANDS has promised low fares for locals in return for being allowed to compete with Aurigny on the Alderney-Southampton route.

The Healthspan-owned company has submitted a licence application for the link, which is currently Alderney's only direct route to the UK.

General manager Rob Veron (pictured) said competition would also improve Alderney's struggling economy.

'The key to unlocking tourism in Alderney is the accessibility issue. Competition brings increased capacity and lower fares - we have proven this on the Alderney-Guernsey route and on the rest of our Southampton services.
