WITH the start of the Island Games less than four months away and places still up for grabs, this season's road season perhaps has more than most riding on it.

Sunday morning sees the first time trial of the 2011 season at Mont Varouf, with the opening road race taking place a week later and the likelihood of one Games road spot still available.

James McLaughlin, Tobyn Horton and Dan Arblaster have all but got their spots nailed on and all are competing off-island, but there is a host of names that could complete the quartet.

Guernsey Velo Club president Gary Wallbridge believes that looming selection makes this an intriguing start to the new season, which will see five road races before the Games team is announced.
