First aiders are out to give Jersey another bloody nose

VOLUNTEERS from St John Ambulance did battle in the annual inter-insular competition on Saturday, but no real blood was drawn.

About 60 people from Guernsey and Jersey were involved in the event - at Les Beaucamps High School - that was first held in 1952.

Entrants were divided into three classes of which the Badgers, aged five to 10, were the youngest.

'We don't just teach them first aid, though it is big part of what we do, but a variety of subjects and life skills generally,' said St John Ambulance commissioner for training Phil Ozanne.
