FIVE French fishermen were rescued off Alderney early this morning.
The five had taken to a life raft after abandoning their fishing boat, Cap Lizard, when it ran aground on Burhou, half a mile off Alderney's north-west coast.
Aldernery's lifeboat the Roy Barker I was launched at 1.45am and the men, none of whom was hurt, were all on board within half an hour.
The Cherbourg-based French military helicopter Dragon 50 had also been despatched, and Guernsey fishing boat Nicola May had turned to assist until being stood down by the French coastguard.
