Waitrose comes to island following its 10-year wait

GUERNSEY'S first Waitrose opened its doors yesterday morning.

Although there were no queues of people waiting at the Rohais site, by 9am - an hour after opening - more than 300 had come in, filling the car park.

Customers found the former Safeway store had been completely transformed inside. The only thing that had not changed was the flooring.

The frontage has been extended, a cafe installed and the ceiling lowered to give it a cosier feel.
