OIL in the Torrey Canyon quarry has claimed its latest bird victim, a duck, just after the 44th anniversary of the tanker disaster.
The oil was placed in the Chouet headland quarry as a short-term measure in 1967, but little had been done with it until recently.
Over the last three years the Public Services Department has used a bio-remediation technique to break down the oil.
But GSPCA animal collection officer Geoff George said it was still having a devastating effect on wildlife.
