GREASE has certainly been the word at St Anne's School this week.

More than 20 pupils have been involved in its latest production, with Joe Stanley and Shannon Clarke taking the lead roles of Danny and Sandy.

Head teacher Mike Gaunt, the show's director, said rehearsals had gone well.

'It's been good so far. Everybody has worked hard and we're prepared for three sell-out shows.'

The school decided to perform Grease - made famous by the John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John movie in the 1970s - straight after last year's show.

'It's a classic show for youngsters of any age,' said Mike. 'We've enjoyed getting children from Years 5 and 6 involved.'

The three-night run began yesterday and full houses were expected for each performance.

The Georgian House - one of Alderney's landmark pubs - is to reopen in May.

Sisters Holly and Jennie Fisher, daughters of Georgian co-owner Clive, are to run the Victoria Street business and they're hoping to turn its fortunes around.

Holly - who has experience of the hospitality industry through her company Fish & Pips, which sells bespoke gastro holidays in the Alps - is eager to hit the ground running.

'The idea will be to maintain the original ethos, reputation and feel of the Georgian, while striving to take it to new heights and bringing it up to speed with the modern day,' she said. 'Great food is at the top of the list - we want to make the most of Alderney's resources and use locally-sourced produce wherever possible.'

Holly is hoping that a revitalised Georgian will help to boost Alderney's economic fortunes.

'We've given the website an overhaul and we hope that this helps encourage tourism and business from off the island. It will also be used to keep locals informed of news and promotions.'

Holly is planning for the pub to open daily.

'The bar and restaurant will be open every day, three bedrooms will be available for overnight guests on a bed and breakfast basis, the Orangery will be sporting a new look, the garden will be in full swing with live music during the day and by night, rugs and clay burners will allow an alfresco drinking experience.'

Holly also has other ideas up her sleeve.

'There are plenty more exciting changes in store, with special menus and promotions, including barbecues, paella and sangria evenings and Saturday brunch, to name a few. There will be fresh menu ideas, but old favourites like the infamous crab sandwich won't be going anywhere - fear not.'
