HUNDREDS of primary schoolchildren will be taking part in a tomato growing scheme over the next two weeks.

Le Friquet Garden Centre has invited 14 local primary schools to take part in planting sessions, aimed at encouraging more youngsters to learn how to grow.

The sessions are part of the Blue Diamond Group's school support programme, which was launched in 2009.

Group marketing manager Kay Leslie said the aim of the tomato initiative was to help the children understand where their food came from.
