TOM HOLLINGSWORTH produced the swim of a lifetime to smash an island record that had been set years before he was born.

At the Hampshire County Championships, held for the first time in the new 50m pool at the Mount Batten Centre in Portsmouth, Hollingsworth (pictured) claimed the 200m breaststroke title in 2min. 20.01sec., knocking more than six seconds off Andrew Robilliard's long-standing island record set at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.

Hollingsworth's time also clipped three seconds off the Hampshire county record held by GB swimmer and Commonwealth Games medallist Darren Mew dating back to 1995.

That was one of six championship titles won by the 23-year-old, who rose to the occasion brilliantly and also claimed another island long-course record in the process.
