Auctioneers split over 00 plates' impact on values

ISSUING a new series of local number plates starting with 0 or 00 will probably devalue exclusive registrations currently in private ownership, one auctioneer has said.

But Channel Islands Auctions managing director Norman Wilkinson still thought the plan was a good one.

'Jersey has the JSY plates and that's really taken off, so I think it's a good way to raise funds for the States,' he said. 'I think they will be very popular. There is always someone with an exclusive car who wants to be different.'

However, Clive Maides from Martel Maides disagreed with the suggestion that new cherished plates would devalue existing ones.
