Dresses impress

There are just three weeks to go until a host of Guernsey celebrities take to the floor with their professional dancing partners. Aimee Le Cocq's dress has arrived and all that's left to do is practise...

THE dresses have arrived.

After a long wait, our hand-made dresses are finally here. I must admit, prior to the great unveiling, I had been quite nervous.

When choosing my dresses, I had been able to see them only on a website and it was difficult to imagine how they would look on. But they were made to measure, all the way down to wrist size.

I won't describe them here (I want to keep their looks top secret until the night), but I can tell you they are beautiful. I love my samba dress. It fits really nicely, although slightly big in the cup size. And although the tango is also a beautiful dress, I am not sure if it really suits me.

I suppose I am not used to wearing such a style of dress, so I am unsure what to do. But at this stage, it is too late to have another one made.

Another issue we have is the colour of my samba dress. We thought it would match perfectly what James is wearing. It doesn't. But again, it will have to do.

At the weekend, James and I had lessons with Chris, a professional from the UK.

He taught us the final few parts of the tango. So now we know it fully. The last few parts were actually rather simple to learn, but are the showy parts and include our lift. I found learning with Chris really helpful and our lesson was only 45 minutes long.

We also know our samba fully and have practised it several times with the others doing it. So things are really starting to come together.

Last week we did not do our tango in front of the other dancers, as we wanted to have learned the entire dance before we showcased it.

So this week we had to. Even though I have practised it dozens of times in front of the other dancers, it was a different experience having them as an audience. I was quite nervous, but I just had to think about the dancing rather than those watching.

It went OK, apart from a lift. I did not jump properly, so I almost fell out of James's clutches. But at least I was able to laugh about it.

There are still some areas I have difficulty in. But that is what the next three weeks are for – to perfect it in time for the Dancefloor Challenge on 30 April.
