ALL three of Guernsey's competitors in Warilla in New South Wales did well on day two yesterday, boosting their hopes of gaining places in the knockout stages of the Bowls World Cup.

Ali Merrien put her disappointment at losing to American Dee McSparran in the first round behind her, and notched up three victories, beating Jersey's Christine Grimes, Malta's Carmen Spiteri and New Zealand's Jo Edwards in quick succession.

'I think that losing to Dee really spurred me on,' said Merrien (pictured).

'It was an 8.30am start after all and that didn't help, but it made me aware that I have to think a bit more - it certainly did the trick when I won the World Champion of Champions title in 2007.'
