RANGERS' slim hopes of a Wheway Cup spot disappeared as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Vale Rec in Division One.

The red-and-blacks had needed to win their three remaining games including this encounter, but the result means that North have secured third place in the league.

Rec took the lead through Daena Bodie in the 38th minute, after he broke the offside trap to leave defenders for dead and chipped over goalkeeper Adam Gontier for the lead.

The three points were secured midway through the second period when youngster Blair Howitt coolly side-footed home for his second senior goal and the chance to beat their opponents into fourth place in the final table.
