'Prime site' Swissville could go in HSSD sell-off

HEALTH and Social Services is investigating selling off parts of its estate including prime property at Swissville.

Its report into the future of health care said that its infrastructure was not always suitable for providing modern services, something which could contribute to inefficiencies in service delivery.

The department already has plans under way to move mental health services out of the Castel Hospital and centralise them at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital site, which should go to the States for detailed approval in 2012.

'We're trying not just to look at the PEH. There is something like £150m. of real estate insured across Health and Social Services. We have Swissville, a prime potential site in St Peter Port, to sell off. It's not the easiest place to offer social services from,' said a department spokesman.
