Le Ber departs head high

MATT LE BER matched Stewart Anderson for much of their WIBC world indoor singles quarter-final in Pontllanfraith, but lost in straight sets as the young Scot booked his place in the semi-finals.

MATT LE BER matched Stewart Anderson for much of their WIBC world indoor singles quarter-final in Pontllanfraith, but lost in straight sets as the young Scot booked his place in the semi-finals.

Reflecting yesterday on his achievement in reaching the last eight of this prestigious event, Le Ber (pictured) said: 'To be honest, I was a bit fortunate to make the knockout stage after winning only one group game.

'But I was pleased with the way I played against Stewart, who is one of the best players in the world, and feel I could have beaten him if I had not dropped three damaging trebles in the first set.'

Although Anderson was representing Scotland, he recently moved to Wales, where he is a member of the host club and only last week won Welsh national titles in pairs and triples.
