Hurley puts success down to sandwich not sand wedge

HAVING only recently returned to the game, Avril Hurley took little time in picking up one of local golf's big prizes.

She racked up 40 Stableford points playing off a handicap of 27 to lift the Yorkshire Guernsey Cancer Relief Trophy at the Royal Guernsey GC this week.

The Castel Primary School teacher had previously put her golf on hold for some 28 years to focus on her teaching career and bringing up her family.

Now, with a little more time on her hands, Hurley is determined to play more regularly.
