Agents press States as open market sales slip

ESTATE agents are ramping up the pressure on the States to clarify the future of the open market, after the Housing minister said that population policy legislation could be four years away.

ESTATE agents are ramping up the pressure on the States to clarify the future of the open market, after the Housing minister said that population policy legislation could be four years away.

Deputy Dave Jones told the Assembly last week that getting a new regime on the statute book would 'take as long as it takes'.

Some agents have now indicated that uncertainty has prompted buyers to pull out, losing thousands in the process.

Others said that some open market owners were considering legal action if they lost money over any future States decision to scrap the sector.
