FOR the first time the Guernsey Housing Association is looking to build new homes in the rural area.

The project, which would cost between £3.5m. and £4m., means there could be 24 new one-bed flats at Rue Jehannet in St Martin's.

Plans for the new Le Clos Barbier social housing scheme have been submitted to the Environment Department after two years of discussions.

GHA chief executive Steve Williams said the proposals could only be submitted for approval because they would be completing an existing estate.
