Brehaut steals it on the line

GRUNTING with effort and pedalling with the ferocity of the breakers hitting the rocks on a brisk day outside Rocquaine Bay, Paul Brehaut stole another good win on the roads yesterday morning.

GRUNTING with effort and pedalling with the ferocity of the breakers hitting the rocks on a brisk day outside Rocquaine Bay, Paul Brehaut stole another good win on the roads yesterday morning.

Amid the spectacularly beautiful backdrop of the bay in bright early morning spring sunshine, the veteran performer won the photo-finish from Stuart Le Tissier and Jon Osborn to take the honours in the annual Liberation Day road race.

The 45-mile event over five-and-three-quarter laps of the club's main L'Eree circuit which incorporates four climbs of Pleinmont Hill, came nicely to the boil in the final mile.

Philip Touzeau, a winner at Easter on the same course, kicked for home by the old Rocquaine Fish Factory, but did not have the legs to get away.
