HEATHER WATSON believes she has the game to compete with the best in the world despite seeing her impressive run in the French Open come to an end yesterday.
The Guernsey girl, who had won through three qualifying rounds before becoming the first British female to win a first round match in 17 years at Roland Garros this week, was beaten in straight sets by 16th seed Kaia Kanepi.
The hard-hitting Estonian saw off Watson 6-1, 6-3 in 1hr 11min. on a windy day in Paris, but the Sarnian showed herself and everyone watching that she has the talent to challenge the world's elite.
'If I would have come on more consistent today and won those points when I needed to, I feel like I could have really competed hard with her and been up with her, which is good because I need to know that in my head - to believe I'm going to make it - otherwise there's no chance for me,' Watson said.
