Guernsey director Ian Milner defended the company's three fast ferries - the Vitesse, Rapide and Express - after two of the boats had been forced to drop from four to three engines during the last week - causing long delays for sea travellers.
Some members of the tourism industry said they would prefer a slower, more reliable service than the current fast ferries, which have been plagued by technical problems.
Mr Milner said that with Condor operating both high-speed and conventional services to the islands, it was easy to compare the demand between the two.
'The preference is clear, with conventional ferry services being far less used by passengers than high-speed ferries,' he said.
