SLICING the hedge at the Vale War Memorial in half has ruined the privacy of the neighbouring garden, its owner has said.

Route des Coutures resident Gay Gilman, 71, said she was shocked when friends interrupted her holiday in the UK yesterday to tell her that the hedge, which had once obscured her garden from the main road, was being cut down.

'They haven't notified me at all - perhaps we could have come to a compromise,' she said.

'But they've cut it down to just 6ft. My garden is now fully open to everyone.'

The cemetery committee was not immediately available to comment.
