ALDERNEY'S new States President thinks the island's relationship with Guernsey could be improved.

Stuart Trought, 60 (pictured), was elected on Saturday and will be sworn in as Sir Norman Browse's successor next week.

In his first in-depth interview since the poll - where he defeated Bill Simpson and Paul Arditti - Mr Trought talked extensively about strengthening Alderney's ties with France and reviewing its links with Guernsey.

Mr Trought said: 'I do not want to see Alderney disadvantaged in any inter-island relationship. I think Alderney is getting a deal from Guernsey that was set up in 1948.'
