NORTHERN Ireland has Rory McIlroy to shout about - Guernsey has Aimee Ponte.

On the day McIlroy landed the US Open title, Ponte won her first Channel Islands title in the most nerve-wracking fashion in Jersey yesterday when, for the second year in succession, the Sarnians completed a magnificent clean sweep of the four individual CI titles at stake.

La Moye has seldom been a happy hunting ground for Guernsey golfers, but such troubles seemed a million miles away as Ponte beat the most successful Jersey women's golfer of modern times, Jenny Deeley, in her own backyard, Bobby Eggo smashed fellow veteran Trevor Gray 7 and 5, James Hamon won the junior title 6 and 5 and Kimberley Goodall won the women's bronze division.

But it was Ponte's clash that provided the real drama.
