THE expected charge of 10-time island champion Bobby Eggo did not materialise in the rain and miserable conditions of the final day of the island's only 72-hole competition.

In his last round before the CI matchplay final, a soaked and probably thoroughly miserable Eggo returned a nine-over 79 to finish six shots adrift of the man who had led the chase for the Credit Suisse Trophy from day one, Danny Blondel.

The latter returned his second successive 75 and ultimately finished six clear of Nigel Vaudin and Jack Mitchell, who finished on the same mark as Eggo after a 75 and 77 respectively.

An indication of the final day's unpleasantness was that nobody bettered five-over, Danny Vennard being the third to do so with the day's best round off handicap (68).
