THE Policy Council is refusing to divulge details of an out-of-court settlement made with UK fishermen in a lengthy dispute over fishing rights.

The case, brought by Interfish Wirons Ltd against the States of Guernsey, was due to be back in court in Guernsey on Thursday but the hearing was cancelled.

Advocate Gordon Dawes, who represents the plaintiff, confirmed yesterday that the case had been settled out of court, but said the details were confidential.

The council would not say yesterday what the settlement was, whether it was financial and, if so, if the figure would be published in the States accounts. It is not known what legal costs might fall to the taxpayer.
