GUERNSEY'S air target shooters have claimed double silver on the opening day of the NatWest Island Games.

The men's air rifle pairing of Paul Guillou and Lee Roussel finished in second place in the team 10m event, as did Tara Laine and Rebecca Margetts in the women's 10m air pistol team competition.

TOBYN HORTON has retained his crown as the NatWest Island Games men's town criterium champion.

Horton rode a magnificent race, leading at the bell and then extending his advantage over the final lap to win gold in Ventor, as he had done in Rhodes in 2007 when cycling was last included in the Games.

THE men's town criterium cycle race in the Isle of Wight has been delayed following a crash within the first few hundreds yards of the start.

Guernsey's Mike Serafin, who has apparently suffered a badly gashed hand, is reported to be one of the several riders injured, but the rest of the Sarnian team are unscathed.

ANN BOWDITCH won a thrilling sprint finish to the women's town criterium cycle race to win gold for Guernsey this afternoon in the Isle of Wight.

Bowditch finished in 39min. 41sec., the same time as fellow medallists Laura Wasley from the Isle of Man and Kim Ashton from Jersey.

The two other Guernsey riders, Sam Herridge and Karina Bowie, finished seventh and eighth respectively, just four seconds behind the winner. It has now been confirmed that Guernsey also won team gold.

GUERNSEY have won their first two gold medals of the 14th NatWest Island Games in the Isle of Wight.

Lee Merrien claimed his expected victory in the Half-Marathon and combined with the efforts of Mike Wilesmith and Steve Dawes, there was also team gold for the Sarnian men.
