THE big purchases at the auction proved money well spent for Mourant Ozannes as they became inaugural Clydesdale Bank International GPL champions on Saturday afternoon.

Fittingly the final was between the best two sides, but it was the maroons who came out on top of the competition with a deserved 21-run win over BDO at the KGV.

Having lost a couple of early wickets, Mourant Ozannes were grateful to captain Lee Savident and professional Will Beer, who both hit excellent half-centuries, for getting them up to a challenging total of 146 in their 20 overs.

Although BDO got off to a good start in their reply, their pro, James Kirtley, racing to a 50 of his own, the strength of Mourant Ozannes' attack steadily came to the fore with seamers Jamie Nussbaumer and Stuart Bisson complementing spinners Beer and Max Ellis perfectly as they turned the screw.
