GUERNSEY'S badminton players endured a long day, but it was worth it as they won team gold at the NatWest Island Games just before midnight on day two.

  • THE 4x50m men's medley quartet have made it a cool half-dozen gold medals for Guernsey in the pool this evening at Medina Leisure Centre.

The Sarnian four of Matt Girard, Tom Hollingsworth, Ben Lowndes and Ian Powell clocked 1-43.15 to edge out the Faroes Islands by just 0.08sec.

Earlier, the women's 4x50m freestyle quartet of Alicia Munro, Kristina Neves, Lotte Parfit and Victoria Parfit had claimed a bronze medal in 1-51.91.

  • KYLIE ROBILLIARD has rewritten the NatWest Island Games record books by becoming the first female sprinter to break the 12sec. barrier for the 100m.

The Guernsey athlete claimed gold in the blue riband event with a brilliant run of 11.94sec. at the Fairway track to push defending champion Hanna Wiss from Aland into silver position, 0.27sec. behind the Sarnian star.

In her first Island Games final, Guernsey teenager Teresa Roberts finished just outside the medals in fourth in 12.36sec.

  • TOM HOLLINGSWORTH has followed the example set by Kristina Neves and Ian Powell in winning a swimming gold in a record time at the 14th NatWest Island Games.

Hollingsworth has obliterated the previous 200m individual medley record at the Games by clocking 2-01.00 at Medina Leisure Centre to claim gold ahead of Faroe Islands star Olympian Pal Joensen, who took silver in 2-03.18.

  • THE star swimming duo of Kristina Neves and Ian Powell have been at it again, claiming their second golds of these NatWest Island Games and both in new records.

Neves followed up her 100m butterfly success with victory in the women's 200m freestyle, clocking 2-02.05 to slash almost two seconds off the previous record.

Then Powell took 0.6sec. off the 50m backstroke record, winning gold in 25.27sec.

  • KRISTINA NEVES has claimed the first of surely many NatWest Island Games gold medals and with a new record time too.

Having broken the women's 100m butterfly record during the morning heats, the 14-year-old then took more than a second off her time this evening as she clocked 1-03.03 to win.

Tom Hollingsworth, meanwhile, has won silver in the men's 100m breaststroke behind former GB Olympian Darren Mew.

  • IAN POWELL has smashed the NatWest Island Games 200m butterfly record to claim Guernsey's first gold medal in the pool at these Games.

The 25-year-old Sarnian became the first man to break the 2min. barrier for the event at the Games, clocking 1-58.43 to win from fellow Guernseyman Ben Lowndes in silver position.

Earlier in the evening, Kristina Neves won silver in the women's 400m individual medley as both she and new champion Charlotte Atkinson from the Isle of Man went under the previous Games record.

There has been a shock at the Fairway athletics track, though, as Isle of Wight teenager James Forman won the 400m hurdles in a new record time of 50.41sec. to beat Guernsey's Dale Garland, who ran 51.16, into second place.

  • GUERNSEY have stormed into the final of the table tennis team event in the Isle of Wight.

After completing their group campaign with a 6-1 win over old foes Jersey and a 7-0 whitewash of the host island, the Sarnians face Menorca in the semi-finals this afternoon and did not drop a set as they raced to a 4-0 victory. They will face either Gotland or Jersey in tomorrow's final.

Meanwhile, young Guernsey sailor Andy Bridgman won the second Laser Radial race of the day to lead the competition with four of the nine races completed. His teammate Johanna Asplund lies in 10th.
